| The Lerin Isles and Beaches at Theole sur Mer The Lerin Isles, Ste Marguerite and Ste Honorat, lie 6km off the coast near Cannes. Ste Marguerite is the largest of the islands and closest to the coast, the fort on the island is where the man in the iron mask was imprisoned at the end of the 17th century. Ste Honorat is much smaller, but an even more beautiful island. The island is still the property of the monks that live there and there are numerous chapels and other buildings on the island. The eleventh century tower of the original monastery remains. The monks make honey and an excellent liqueur called Lérina as well as their own wine. All the products are available to buy on the island. Cars are not allowed on the islands and due to the risk of fire, smoking is forbidden.
